NO CRACK ABOUT THE CROCK POT

One of the problems I've often experienced is coming home from work too tired to cook my own dinner. And frankly, I've had about enough of pizzas, TV dinners, and Chinese takeouts. Much as I didn't want to do it, I knew I had to. I called my mom and asked her advice. She recommended a crock pot.

"What?" Was my initial reaction, thinking I either heard wrong or my mom was showing early signs of Alzheimer’s.

"A crock pot, honey. A slow cooker that will let you prepare and leave everything cooking while you're at work. All cooked, hot, and ready for you to eat when you get home," my mom patiently replied.

Oh yeah – a slow cooker. I went shopping that weekend and saw this cute, little one, that's recommended for 1-2 people. A 3-1/2 qt. oval shape, removable stoneware with glass lid by Rival for only $24.99. It features stick-resistant coating for easy clean-up, three settings—off, low, or high. What's more, it supposedly ensures even cooking, so no stirring or supervision necessary.

Then I saw the KitchenAid 7-quart slow cooker with a 10-hour timer that has a digital display. Its 5-setting cook and serve control will keep food warm until it's ready to serve. Plus, its rounded rectangular design offers more space for cooking roasts and poultry, and stews and stock seem like an easier task. It regularly costs $129.99, but is currently discounted at only $99.

Not much to think about there. I knew the KitchenAid crock pot was the one for me!

YOGA ON A BUDGET

My little sister is turning 21 and she says she wants to turn over a new leaf. That is, to take on a healthier lifestyle. I have to admit, I admire her for that, idealistic as it may seem for her, whose closest friends all think drinking eight bottles of beer a day is the same as the prescribed number of glasses of water one should take. But then again, who knows?

I love my sister, but she has two left feet, so aerobics and ballroom dancing are out. She fears the balls would hit her eyes, so tennis and badminton are out, too.

I asked around and someone said that yoga might be good for her. That had possibilities. I checked the nearby yoga studios and I found out there are so many types of yoga. I couldn't figure out what would be appropriate for my baby sister. Plus, $95 a month is quite a hefty sum for a gift she might not appreciate after a week.

Walking back home, I saw on the display window of a sports shop a 7-piece yoga mat set: basic instructional DVD video, blue yoga mat 24"x68"x3/16" that's no slip with carrying case, 2 blue foam blocks 6"x9"x3", black yoga strap 72" long, and an eye mask blindfold (for relaxation or meditation) - all for only $39.99.

I decided to get my sister the set for her birthday. In case she won't want it in the near future, I can borrow them from her and try yoga out myself.

FINDING AFFORDABLE LAPTOP BAGS

Laptops, great as they are, can come with bulky, unsightly bags that throw off anyone’s style. Fortunately, a broad range of items can replace these generic items and spruce up your laptop experience.

Searching through the Internet, I found this gorgeous Paris Leather Bag by Lala Laptop. It measures 16Lx5Wx12H and weighs only 2 lbs, with pockets for a mobile phone, power charger, and documents. It even has a detachable exterior bag that converts into a purse, with lots of colours to choose from. With its endless compartments the price tag of $375 is almost justified.

However, the Knomo - 13" Melilla Laptop Tote, at 15"Wx11.5"x3.3"D, is just right for reasonably sized laptops. It's made of full-hide leather and sleek durable nylon with protective compartment that comes with a two-year warranty. Best of all, each 2.1-lb. bag comes with a unique knomo ID tracker to help you find your knomo if lost. Not bad, at $275.

If you have to go lower than $275, the Moonsus - Urban Laptop Tote 2008 is a great alternative. The Moonsus looks like a designer bag made of water and stain resistant jacquard fabric that comes in khaki, black, or mocha. It has a large main compartment with built-in, padded, 15.4” notebook sleeve. It has pockets for PDA, pen, card holders, and cellular phone, as well as metal feet to protect the bottom part of the bag. Fits up to 15" sized laptops, and best of all, it comes with a bonus cosmetic case and Moonsus gift box with flannel drawstring.

Decorative and Functional Cushion Covers

You will agree with the fact that cushions change the aura of a room with their beauty and comfort, and cushion covers are that home décor item about which you cannot complain that there is not enough variety available. Every home décor outlet, whether online or otherwise is full of a wide range of cushion covers, such as silk, cotton, designer, outdoor, indoor, chair, and patio. Depending on the look you prefer to give to your living room or bedroom, choose cushion covers accordingly. For example, for a royal and traditional look, select silky or embroidered covers. You can also pick bright colourful cushion covers with patchwork on them. In case you like a contemporary look to your rooms, go for denim, leather, velvet, or brocade covers in rich colours.
In case you want to decorate your child’s room, you can easily catch hold of cushion covers printed with famous cartoon characters. If you are setting up a room where you can go and peacefully meditate for couple of hours, you can get a whole range of covers which are meant for floor cushions that will help you to sit comfortably when you want to explore the inner world.

Whenever you wish to buy cushion covers, never buy them only based on what they look like. While cushions are certainly a decorative item in a household, at the same time they are highly functional as well. Children will use them roughly while playing; your spouse will probably like to support his/her back on these cushions while reading or watching TV. Therefore, if you foresee rough usage of your cushions, try to buy covers that can be easily washed, are of durable material and less decorative in terms of mirrors or threads, which at times become highly uncomfortable for the user as well as for the one who has to wash them.

FINDING SMART AND CHEAP BAGS IN THE URBAN JUNGLE

When you have to work out, you have to go out. That is what my girlfriends all say. After realising my metabolism is starting to slow down with my advancing youth, I signed up at the nearest gym and realized that I have no bag to carry my towel and change of clothes.

There are a lot of cute duffel bags in sports shops, but most of them cost more than $50 which is a price that is at the high end of what is necessary. For example, The DKNY Urban Fusion gym bag is priced at $229. The Urban Fusion bag is nice and all but it is ultimately not what is needed.

Compare it to Nike female apparel and accessories. What a welcome surprise it was to find Nike gym bags in various colours at only $20 each. It is made of durable polyester, opens wide to accommodate all the gear, flexible Interior pocket lining to allow me to split the load, wet/dry separation, and lots of inside and outside pockets, too.

Nike even offers discounted options as much as $16 off as part of a back-to-school promo. On top of it all, the Nike gym bag comes with a lifetime warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Choosing between the two, each product definitely has a different appeal; DKNY for the fashion statement on gym grounds, and Nike bags for a more sporty appeal. Ask yourself if the fashion premium is worth the price increase before you eventually choose one.

GAS RANGES ON A BUDGET

Mothers generally love cooking. Plenty of mothers actually go out of their way to visit culinary schools in order to improve their cooking skills and eventually make their families happier with excellent food every day. In order to practice cooking efficiently, one has to purchase a decent gas range with which to cook. Let’s face it; this is the only competitive advantage restaurants have over regular home cooked meals. However, one doesn’t have to spend more than $1000 on a professional level gas range.
Let’s compare the Premier - 36" Freestanding Gas Range - Stainless-Steel, which is a professional gas range that costs more than $1200, to the HOTPOINT RGB508PPAAD Hotpoint(R) 30"" Free-Standing Gas Range, which only costs $241.
The only difference is that the Premier Freestanding Gas Range is six inches larger and has two more available stoves with which one can cook. However, one of the main things to consider when cooking at home is that one doesn’t really cook in mass. The most magical and delicious aspect of home cooking is that the food was cooked specifically for a person and not anonymously like the food most people get in restaurants and fast foods.
Also, by choosing the Hotpoint Freestanding Gas Range, one saves nearly $1000 which can then be used on the best ingredients for cooking. The only thing one gives up is the prestige of having restaurant quality equipment at one’s disposal. Then again, true prestige can be attained by seeing the satisfied faces of people who enjoyed a wonderfully cooked meal. Overall, it makes less sense to purchase a $1000 device when one can easily work with one that’s 80% cheaper.

MIX IT UP WITH A MIXER

Baking can be easy and fun with the proper tools. Thus, it is pertinent for one to have a good, reliable mixer.

One of the brands in the market favoured by homemakers is KitchenAid, particularly its Artisan Ice Stand Mixer model. Retro in style, this mixer is easy to use with tilting head to facilitate bowl and content removal, and has stainless steel mixing bowl with extra-large 5-qt. capacity and an ergonomic handle. With a powerful 325-watt motor, it effectively mixes even the toughest batter. The mixer comes with a pouring shield, plus hassle-free total replacement warranty and one-year full warranty. It does, however, cost $299.99.

An alternative is the Hamilton Beach Eclectics All-Metal Stand Mixer - Sterling priced at $199.99. It has two-way rotating mixing action to ensure you get the most out of your mixing. Also, this mixer has double rotation for that professional grade mix. It comes with a stainless steel 4.5 quart bowl to complete the classic look. It also has a shield on the mixing bowl and when this bowl locks in to the mixer, it keeps it firmly in place. Moreover, it has smudge-free coating for breezy cleaning.

Another option is the Sunbeam Heritage Series Stand Mixer - PARENT that only costs $135. It features die cast metal as well as dual motors, beaters, and bowl. It is also powerful with a 450 watts, three way mixing, and variable speed selections. It comes with steel beaters, whisks, dough hooks, and stainless steel bowls. Looks like the same one mom (or grandma) had, but with lots of power and hi-tech functions.

SELECTING ROOM AIRCONDITIONERS

One of the most common problems in households all around the world is the effect the weather has on the entire house. It’s difficult to tell what weird weather today will bring next and therefore every house must have a reliable air conditioner that is capable of cooling the house. This is especially useful due to the recent trend of global warming which will eventually affect larger parts of the world.
However, there is something that is called “value for money,” and the purchase of an air conditioner must be well thought out. A good example is the comparison between the Frigidaire - 5000 BTU Room Air Conditioner and the Heat Controller, Inc. RAD-61-5 - 6000Btu Air Conditioner. The former costs $130 and the latter $200.
The difference between the two is that the Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner is an efficient cooler of rooms while the Heat Controller works in two ways. The main thing one has to consider here is if the $70 difference in price is enough to justify an extra function.
Of course, these air conditioners have different roles in different weathers. In places where conditions vary from hot to cold, the Heat Controller may become the best choice of air conditioning. In dominantly warm and tropical countries, however, the Frigidaire can get the job done just as well and for $70 cheaper. Talk about a bargain!
So, depending on where one lives, there is a potential $70 savings especially she considers only what she needs and manages her funds wisely.

IRON IT OUT

Despite easy-care fabric and "wrinkle-free" garments available today, if you want to look your best, you probably still need to do some ironing. Natural fibres like cotton and linen particularly need to be pressed. Even permanent press fabric benefits from a touch-up once in a while.

A favourite is Rowenta Powerglide Iron DX-1700 at $49.99, which features Airglide Soleplate that is highly polished with stainless steel finish to better glide over fabrics. It has anti-drip design that prevents spitting and leaking when the thermostat is on low temperature setting. Plus, it has vertical steam for curtains and hanging garments that provides practical and efficient wrinkle removal. It also has a comfort handle for better grip and manoeuvring, and extra-large, transparent water tank (holds 8.5 oz), and smart auto shut-off that switches the iron off in eight minutes if left vertically, 30 seconds if left horizontally and 30 seconds if tipped over.

An even more hi-tech is iron is the Reliable's Velocity Digital Iron, which gives you professional ironing quality and speed, but with the simplicity and ease of use of a traditional iron. It features revolutionary temperature control and generates steam within the iron, so you can easily adjust the temperature of the soleplate to the exact needs of the fabric you are pressing; it has powerful, continuous steam. The Velocity soleplate surface has a unique design with the steam holes concentrated near the tip that prepares fabric with a constant and plentiful outflow of the steam for quicker ironing. Plus, it has innovative digital control system with LCD display, auto shut-off indicator, water tank refilling indicator, anti-scaling system replacement indicator, and acoustic warning device. The Reliable Velocity sells at a hefty sum of $129.95, but it is well worth it.

MAKE HOMEMADE ICE CREAM

Love ice cream but not all the fat and sugar and preservatives that go along with most commercial ones? Make your own fast and easy with an ice cream maker.

Cuisinart is a brand of ice cream makers favoured by most frozen dessert lovers. A top seller is its Mix It In Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker tagged at $99.95. It makes 1.5 quarts of ice cream as fast as 20 minutes (perfect for sating midnight cravings or serving frozen dessert to unexpected guests), and features three built-in condiment dispensers, a cone holder, as well as double-insulated freezer.

Also popular is the Hamilton Beach Bucket Ice Cream Maker priced at $49.99, which has a capacity of 4 quarts, great for small parties at home. It can makes ice cream, frozen yogurt, custard, sherbet, and gelato. It is also fully automatic and comes with more than 20 recipes.

If you're not sure you will get to use an ice cream maker often enough to spend much on one, then the Rival 4 Quart Electric Ice Cream Maker would be a very good choice. It sells for only $29.99, after all. It can make 4 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and other frozen confections. It has an aluminium canister, a translucent canister lid for easy viewing, and an easy to lock motor housing. Plus, it has a compact design for storage ease.

So go ahead, indulge. Make your own ice cream the way you want it, as healthful as you'd like it to be.

DRESS IN BLACK

Remember what your mom and your girlfriend always said: you have to have a little black dress that can go with almost anything and you can wear almost anywhere? Well, it's true. You just can't go wrong with a little black dress.

A really cute and fashionable one is DKNY's black jersey knit cap sleeve dress with a retail price of $245.00. You can be effortlessly chic with this cute little number you just slip on. It has a contemporary fit and stand up neck with self-tie closure. Currently on sale at only $147.00, it's one good designer buy. Unfortunately, it only comes in sizes S and M.

To get the look at a cheaper price, there's the Ming Wang short-sleeved made of soft, lightweight fabric that is ribbed for full shape. It is also scoop-neck apparel that falls to a straight seam. It is great for hiding any unwanted bulges in your tummy area since its semi-fitting at the bust and hip. What's more it comes in various sizes: S=6-8, M=10-12, L=14-16, and XL=18. Do pick one size larger. It is currently tagged at $192.

More voluptuous women, though, might opt for the stretchy Irina Babydoll Dress, which will enhance natural curves. It has short sleeves, seaming at the yoke with slight ruching, and banded detail at armholes. Made for the plus size women in mind, it comes in sizes 16-24. Originally priced $49.95, this little black dress is certainly a steal since it is now only $29.99. Big girls can have all the fun, after all.

LOUNGE AROUND IN COMFY PANTS

Wearing your pyjamas the whole day would not be the best option when staying in for the weekend or a long break. Lounge pants are certainly a better choice to wear for such times.

A top seller is the Bella Ladies French Terry Lounge Pants at $22.92 that comes in sizes S to XL. Weighing only 8 oz., it is a pre-shrunk 95/5 cotton/spandex pant. Definitely what you might call "casual luxury" in a different form. It is a low-rise French terry leg pant with a hint of flair to emphasize almost any woman's curves. It also has a rib waistband and draw cord. The colour options available are black, midnight, chocolate, and white.

Another classic favourite is the Original League Ladies Leisure Capris. It is cotton blend, available in navy, black, green, heather, and white. It is a fashionable capri length with elastic at the hem which is comfy with an elastic waist band and adjustable string. This is surely a stylish way to keep lounging in almost any season. Originally tagged $32, these leisure capris can also be bought at $17 if you know where to look.

Although not that trendy, a practical choice is the Hype Naughty Ladies Spandex Lounge Pants at $15.37. They are made of soft, stretch jersey 92% cotton, and 8% spandex. They also have an elastic waistband with contrast colour jersey drawcord and faux fly. These lounge pants come in so many colours -- black, crocus/limeade, cotton candy hibiscus, green camou, Hawaiian blue hibiscus, Hawaiian blue with orange crush, heather blue, heather grey, heather pink, lilac camou, limeade and cotton candy, white with cotton candy dots, and white. Plus, you can get a discounted price of only $14.80 if you purchase twelve to thirty-five pieces.

Now, that is a great way to lounge in pants!

SPOTLIGHT ON THE SIDE TABLE

Side tables may be literally put on the sidelines, but it cannot be denied that they add an elegant touch to any living room. Plus, they actually serve a purpose. Other than holding decor, they're the perfect place for telephones, key bowls, and bills, too.

A sophisticated side table available in stores is the Powell Furniture - Masterpiece Antique Black End Table originally tagged $289, which now sells for only $220. Antique black with brown rub-through finish gives this square end table real antique patina. To complete its turn-of-the-century look, it has block and bamboo turned posts and three framed woven wicker shelves and top. The top also features inset glass over the woven wicker, while the shelves have enough space to store books and magazines, too. It measures 31.25" H x 24" W x 24" D and comes with one-year warranty against defects in materials, workmanship, or manufacturing.

A cheaper alternative would be the Winsome - Genoa Glass Top End Table with Two Shelves at only $92.99. It's modern and elegant with its glass top set on an exquisite espresso finish. With its wooden legs, the glass will allow clients to see the pictures, memorabilia, or whatever you decide to put on your shelf. A second shelf is provided for additional display. This Winsome – Genoa Glass is one of the several pieces of the broad collection. Not taking up much space, this end table measures only 30.2" H x 17.72" W x 17.72" D.

So go ahead and highlight one part of your living room with an adorned side table.

GETTING THE RIGHT SPORTS BRA

To be fit and healthy seems to be today's mantra for most people, especially for women once they've hit the big thirty. No amount of diet alone will have long-lasting effects and automatically firm buttocks, flatten stomachs, or tone arms. Regular, physical exercise has to come into the picture.

For women, it is important to wear the right the attire, especially the right sports bra. A new design that's all the rave is the Patagonia Women's Sporty High Impact Bra, which is a high-impact, seamless sport bra made of soft fabric that provides ample support. It has ergonomically placed interwoven high-mesh that provides maximum breathability to keep any active woman dry. It's formfitting with a pull-on style, racer back, with V-front, and adjustable straps. Plus, the sports bra has a double-layer that's constructed seamlessly. It is a bit pricey at $50 a piece, and initially only comes in white.

A good alternative is the Moving Comfort Fiona Sports Bra originally priced at $44, but now sells for only $25. It provides superior support, comfort, breathability, and moisture management with its Wicking DriLayer and triple-hook adjustable back closure. It is available in periwinkle and green tea, in cups C, D, DD for high-impact activities.

Another option is the Hind Motion Sensor Sports Bra that was originally $45 and is now discounted at $19.95. Its Sorbtek fabric incorporates dry LETE technology for UV protection and moisture-wicking properties, with stretchable, breathable moulded cups. Its hip cross-back design increases support. Moreover, it has chafe-resistant flat seam construction, is stain-resistant, and made of reflective fabric for night-time visibility. It is available in B and C cups for high-impact activities and D and DD cups for low-impact activities.

WASHING AWAY WITH GREAT MACHINES

Having a washing machine at home has become a basic necessity, and choosing the right one is equally important. Things to consider are size (for your needs and space), water ad energy efficiency, as well as spin speed features.

A good choice would be the LG 2.7 CuFt Front Loading Washer tagged at $1499.95. It has LG's impressive SteamFresh cycle that makes it simple for you to refresh and reduce wrinkles in up to 5 items at one time. When there's no time to iron, you simply need to place a cotton blend shirt into the SteamWasher and by selecting the SteamFresh cycle it can be done in 20 minutes. The large LCD display provides instructions and diagnostics. Also, with its patented remote monitoring system, you just have to attach the modem to an outlet anywhere near the home and it will sync with the machine and show the time left. If space is what you need, the LG Front Loading Washer is stackable.

Similarly, the black Frigidaire Stackable Front Load Washer is a great space-saver, and is priced less at only $899. It has a king-size capacity of 3.5 c.u.ft., Energy Star rating, with a control panel, iCare and iWash, excellent fabric care, silent design for ultra quiet cycle, and wash drum. This washer also has seven wash cycles, and timed water heater up to 14 hours delay start. Plus, it has cycle status lights and a comprehensive time indicator.

Slim and sexy, the LG Front Loading Washer may seem like anyone's first choice, but for practicality and ease of use, the Frigidaire Stackable Front Load Washer would make a wise buy too.

BEAT THE HEAT WITH AIR CONDITIONING

Summer days are fun but can be oh so unbearably hot at times. Thus, a good and reliable air conditioner is a must for the bedroom and other rooms the most time is spent in.

For a small bedroom, the Kenmore 75050 with 5,000 BTU would be the first option for no-frills air conditioning. It costs only about $100, but it's not Energy Star rated and has few features. It has mechanical dials instead of digital controls, and it has no remote control. But the Kenmore does a good job cooling small bedrooms, and most owners say it's quiet enough.

A better alternative would be The Frigidaire FAA055P7A priced at $140. This is a 5,200 BTU unit that’s Energy Star rated with an energy-efficiency ratio of 11.0 and is just right for small rooms of about 150 square feet. It includes a low-voltage control feature that changes automatically. Plus, it has an air filter and touch-button air purifier. It, does, however, beep whenever the target temperature is reached.

Now if you'd prefer a portable air conditioner so you can use it in whatever room you'd be in, the most popular one is the Royal Sovereign ARP1000ES. Although no portable unit cools as well as a window air conditioner, many owners claim that this air conditioner does a good job and that it isn't too noisy. A good testament to build quality is reports of the durability of this unit for more than four years. Rated at 10,000 BTU, it can cool a room of around 200-square-feet. Plus, it can be used as a dehumidifier and comes with a remote control. It exhausts water out the exhaust pipe, so there's no need to empty the collection cup often. It is, however, priced a bit steep at $514, but saves you less more than buying a window-type for each room.

SWIMWEAR FOR BIG GIRLS

Summer is here and there's no need to work up a sweat to get into a great swimsuit. As Meg Cabot has aptly put, "Size 12 is Not Fat" and "Size 14 is Not Fat Either" and there are those who are just "Big Boned".

Perfect for tummy control is the Christina Plus Size Sand Flowers 2pc Tankini with Twist Front originally tagged $88, now only $74.95. It's a classy two-piece swimsuit that provides full coverage made of 80% Nylon and 20% Spandex, with cup bra and built-in bust enhancer, tummy tamer. Chocolate in colour with white prints, it comes in sizes 18W-24W.

A more glamorous alternative would be the Women's Plus Size Crossroads V-neck Skirtini Swimsuit at $89.50. It has contrast binding that's quite flattering for triangle figures, and includes SwimMini™ bottom for coverage. This skirtini is made of Italian fabric is chlorine-resistant with built-in UPF 50 sun protection, plus soft cup bra for smooth support. It comes in two styles: black with white prints, or white with black prints. Sizes come in 6-18 and 16W to 26W.

For those not afraid of colour, the Women's Regular Tropical Floral X-back Skirtini Swimsuit would certainly make you a standout at the pool or beach. This swimwear that comes in Bright Raspberry with Tangerine prints flatters all figures. Its skirtini gives the ease of a two-piece and great coverage: a bold floral top paired with quick-drying Supplex SwimMini with panty underneath. Plus, it's made of fabric that provides UPF 50 sun protection, with non-padded underwire bra for support. It comes in sizes 6-18 ($79.50) and 16W ($89.50).

Who says big girls can't have cake and still look good?

CHOOSING A VACUUM CLEANER

The price of having one's privacy and independence is the responsibility to clean up everything yourself. That is why moms advise us to buy a good vacuum cleaner.

Many recommend the Oreck XL21® Titanium Series Vacuum Cleaner. This hard cleaning appliance has advanced HEPA filtration that captures more than 99.99% of all particles down to 0.3 microns and traps them in disposable vacuum bags. As a result, it removes pollen, mould spores, pet dander, lint, smoke, bacteria and other bugs. It weighs only 9 lbs., making it one of the lightest full size vacuums available, with a 30-foot power cord for added mobility. The Oreck XL's motor generates powerful suction, while it only uses a third of the electricity of any other vacuum motor. What's more, it makes use of a sound-dampening technology that makes it really quiet. The features do sound good even when matched with a price tag of $750.

The search went on and I found online the Eureka Altima Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner that has a HEPA Filter said to capture 99.97% of all dust and other allergen particles as small as 0.3 microns in size. It also has a hose that stretches to three times its original length for extended reach, a handheld attachment with a roller brush to get deep down dirt and hair from staircases and upholstery. Plus, a cleaning path 25 percent wider than standard vacuums, along with a 23-foot power cord makes it easy to clean large areas without plugging and unplugging. For $99.95, the Eureka Altima is a fair steal.

THREE CHEERS FOR MP3s

Music players have come a long way from the Walkman of the 80s (Heck, the kids today have no idea what a Walkman even was). Today, there are different brands and models for music fans to choose from.

Hands down, the most popular would be Apple iPods, Apple iPod Touch (32GB) selling between $479.99 and $499.99, which comes with a big, video-worthy screen (3.5in), cutting-edge interface, and Wi-Fi Internet, e-mail, and music download capabilities.

Unfortunately, the iPod Touch, 2.4" W x 4.3" H x 0.3" D in size, may be a bit too pricey for some and only has a small capacity for a portable video player.

Nonetheless, the iPod Touch is a beautiful product inside and out and a lot find it worth its cost. Plus, it's an iPod!

A good alternative is the Microsoft Zune that features: a 3.2-inch glass LCD; user-friendly interface; superb navigation control; audio and video podcast support; excellent FM radio with RBDS information; wireless syncing and sharing; high quality earphones; rewritten Zune Marketplace PC software; Zune Pass subscription music support; high audio quality; built-in composite-video output; and measures exactly the same as the Ipod Touch.

The thing about the Zune, though, is that it is a PC-only device that requires its own software and still doesn't support older WMA-DRM9 music files. Moreover, the Zune Marketplace doesn't offer video downloads and the USB connection is proprietary.
It is, just the same, a worthy iPod alternative priced at only $237.49 - 249.99. I am sure there are other players that are priced lower but these two are the gian

FAB TRENCHCOAT FINDS

Trench coats are a wonderful addition to any wardrobe and a fashionable one can make any drab clothing underneath go unnoticed.

Stand out with a belted denim trench coat by Ralph Lauren for $179. It is designed in stretch denim for a structured fit, with chic anchor-embossed gold buttons and a double-breasted silhouette. Denim never looked so good. What's more, this designer trench is currently on sale at only $119.99.

A more sophisticated alternative is the Soia & Kyo Asymmetrical Trench Coat priced at $176.99. Its oversized saucer buttons boost the trendiness of a contemporary-fit trench, with contrast piping at the button-tab sleeves and belt. Typically unique of Soia & Kyo designs, this coat has a large oval buckle that emphasizes the nipped-in waist, while front and back inverted pleats give fullness to the skirt. A plus is that it has on-seam pockets and polyester lining. This water-resistant trench comes in cherry and off white.

For those on a tighter budget, the Aqua 3/4 Sleeve Trench Coat (a Bloomingdale's Exclusive) is now 50% off at only $44. Ultra feminine with layered look for the skirt, this trench coat dress is very versatile. It has modern three-quarter sleeves, button front trench styling, and tie waist and pockets. The coat can actually be worn as is, with jeans or leggings. It also comes in two colour options: khaki or black.

If you can afford it, buy all three! The Aqua for office wear, the Ralph Lauren denim for weekends and nights out, and the Soia & Kyo when you really want to impress.
