CASUAL DIAMOND RING

Ahh… the diamond ring… the object of every woman’s desires. There is no question that diamonds are highly fashionable, and while every girl wants a huge diamond ring on her wedding day, every girl also wants a beautiful diamond that she can wear everyday without fear of being over-dressed or over-accessorized for her activities. Casual diamond rings aren’t as expensive as their more formal counterparts but there is still an art of looking for and buying the right one for you.
First on the list is the 14k White Gold Round-Cut Certified Colorless Diamond Engagement Ring (1/3 ct. tw.) from Macy’s which is sold for nearly $900, which is already a sale price. The ring has a classic look to it and is supported by a white gold frame that emphasizes the beauty of the diamond. The appeal of the ring is subtle and can fit with any decent outfit in a woman’s wardrobe.
Now let’s compare it with the 1/4 ct.tw Princess Diamond Solitaire Ring in 18k White Gold which is sold for $400 on Buy.com. True, the frame isn’t white gold but the ring does not sparkle less. To add to this, the diamond is more highly emphasized in this incarnation of a casual diamond ring.
The difference between the two rings, aside from the price, is what surrounds the stones. While white gold sounds nice on the ears, it is undeniable that the Princess Diamond Solitaire Ring gives better emphasis to the diamond is can thus be considered a better diamond ring for any outfit because its outward appeal glistens more than that of its more expensive counterpart. In this scenario, therefore, it is advisable to save $400 and sport a prettier accessory at the same time.

GET MOBILE WITH A LAPTOP

With the need to be accessible and to access information anytime, anywhere, a laptop has become a basic requirement for most people.

Favoured by PC multimedia fans and frequent travellers is the HP Pavilion dv2660se priced at $899. The dv2660se comes with a 1.5-GHz Core 2 Duo T5250 processor and 2GB memory.

This six-pound unit's 12-cell battery endures 6.3 hours on one charge, about 2.5 hours longer than the average mainstream laptop. A cool extra is the notebook's instant-on capability QuickPlay menu to play a DVD or CD without launching Windows. It also has Webcam and dual headphone ports for private listening.

The HP Pavilion has no Bluetooth, gigabit Ethernet, and a fingerprint reader, but its 802.11g Wi-Fi is fast enough for most.

As for Apple fans, there are the MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo15-inch 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo model, 15-inch 2.5GHz model, and 17-inch 2.5GHz system. Priced the same as previous models — $1,999, $2,499, and $2,799 respectively.

Outside, the new 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pros are exactly the same as their predecessors. The trackpad, though, now accommodates multi-touch hand gestures it introduced in the iPhone and on the MacBook Air.

Both 15-inch models are fitted with LED backlit anti-glare screens. The battery life of the 2.5GHz MacBook Pro's is also 21 percent better than the previous model, lasting 2 hours and 55 minutes. For the new 17-inch model, though, battery boost is only five percent: 2 hours and 53 minutes.

Taking both into consideration, the higher-end Macbook Pros are superb models for any artistic, professional, or educational application. They are Apple's speediest laptops yet. Higher-end models are loaded with both system and video RAM with better cache capacities.

MICROWAVE WONDERS

Buying a microwave seems like the simplest solution these days, be it to defrost meat for cooking, or to reheat food from the fridge. One should consider first the main purpose for buying one as well as the size of the microwave, dependent on the space available in your kitchen.

You can't go wrong, with the Sharp R-230 800 Watts Microwave Oven that costs only $100. It offers 15 automatic settings and 800 watts of cooking power, just about right for any purpose. It also features four defrost options that allow fast defrosting of meat and poultry, six reheat options, as well as four cook options for flawless cooking. Plus, its Auto-Touch Controls are accurate and easy to use with precise and easy to read digital display. It's also small enough to fit any counter top, nearly a cubic foot of space, at 18 1/8" W x 10 7/8" H x 14 1/8" D.

A good alternative would be the Whirlpool MT4078SP 18" Countertop Microwave Oven priced at only $72. It has a 0.7 Cu. ft. capacity, 700 watts cooking power, 9 instant control pads, and 10-level variable control with cooking, reheat, warm, and defrost cycles. For those with young children, this Whirlpool model is heaven-sent with an electronic child lockout feature that disables all electronic control buttons when activated. It has Braille overlays, too. It also requires a small space, measuring 18" W x 11" H x 12 3/8" D.

The Sharp may be the more popular choice, but Whirlpool has a more reliable name when it comes to microwave ovens. With a lower price, it really is the more sensible buy.

WOMEN’S FLIP FLOPS

It’s not exactly the most comfortable thing in the world to wear proper women’s shoes all the time. During some casual occasions, it is more than acceptable to wear flip-flop as the fashion trends have turned friendly towards it. It is essential for women, then, to scour the stores and find bargain flip-flops as some brands, like Havaianas, have become too overpriced to be worth the money. Other, lesser known, brands have produced better looking and cheaper flip-flops and it should be fun to explore this market.
The Teva Toolani Flip Flops are a good example of a brand that has reached the level of Havaianas but still has modest pricing at $21.95 a pair. True, the price isn’t that far from that of Havaianas, but the fact that no one else wears Teva Toolani is a definite plus as it creates more individuality for the wearer. Moreover, the color scheme is more solid so the flip-flops don’t really limit themselves to typical beach fashion.
On the other hand there are Roxy Gigi Flip-Flops that look fabulous and only cost $15.16 a pair on the Roxy website. The design is for surfing but the outwards look that it conveys has grace and can definitely hold its own in casual social situations. The straps are also very trendy as the patterns are attractive and very continental.
These are only two of the possible flip-flop options one has these days. There are definitely more brands out there but these two are definitely recommended as the brands are reputable but not overused and beautiful but fairly priced.

THE BLENDER BENDER

Smoothies are the best way to get a good, healthy breakfast or snack in a flash. Thus, it is important to have a durable and reliable blender.

Probably the number one bestseller for blenders is the Vitamix TurboBlend 4500 2-Speed Blender priced at $346.77. It has a heavy-duty two plus peak horsepower motor with a two speed control and allegedly has a virtually unbreakable 64-ounce, polycarbonate container. It also has thermally protected motor for optimum performance. The Vitamix TurboBled measures 20-1/2 by 7-1/4 by 8-3/4 inches. Although it doesn't come with any other attachment, it includes a 95-page recipe book, manual, and a 5-year warranty.

Another good blender in the market is the Waring MX1000 2-Speed Blender tagged at $329. It boasts of a professional grade 3.0-horsepower motor and its two-speed options with pulse action. It also has a 64-ounce polycarbonate pitcher with integrated blades and nonslip handle and is 19 inches in height. It is, however, a bit oversized; weighing 15 pounds with no other attachment. The blender also comes with a 2 year warranty.

Gaining popularity is the KitchenAid KSB560 Blender that sells as low as $84 and as high as $99. It has a shatter-resistant pitcher that withstands boiling, freezing, and even 2,000 lbs. of pressure; with steel-reinforced coupler for reliability. It's smaller, at only 15.2 inches in height and weighs only 11.5 lbs. But what's great about this blender is that it has five speed options with clean-touch control pads. Plus the fact that it's a way lot cheaper.

There is no need to bend over backwards to afford a good blender. The KitchenAid 5-Speed Blender will most certainly do.

FINDING CHOICE JEANS ON A BUDGET

Nothing smells better than the fresh scent of newly made jeans. Jeans can be worn in any situation and look apt. Even in formal events, jeans have become more widely accepted. This encourages women to think about the jeans they buy. There are two things to keep in mind when completing one’s jean collection: 1. the jeans must look good and 2. One must have enough budgets to use different jeans often as they can be used everyday. Moreover, comfort can also become an issue so that must be taken into account as well.
First we look at the Double L® Lightweight Cropped Jeans that sell for roughly $30. The knitting is well done and colors, while a bit faded, definitely don’t bring down the overall quality of any outfit. The jeans are about ankle length and aren’t as tight as most girls’ jeans. The benefit here is that the jeans are more comfortable and can be worn when traveling to different places.
We also have the Wrap Top & Straight-Leg Jeans from NeimanMarcus, which is available for about $120. The jeans have dark spots and embroideries on the back pockets, making it very stylish. The only complaint one can have, however, is that the straight and relatively tight nature of the jeans can be seen as uncomfortable by the wearer. Embroideries are also a generally bad idea as they lessen the compatibility potential of the jeans.
Perhaps the Wrap Top Jeans have better denim than the Double L® brand, but for the $90 price difference and the respective comfort levels of both pairs, Double L® seems to be the choice that makes more sense and the one that leaves the buyer with more money to shop for other parts of the wardrobe.

FAIR DINNERWARE

You've finally gotten your own place a quarter ago and now you can afford to buy your own dinnerware. Not that you didn't appreciate the set mom gave you, but you just have different tastes.

Since you live alone, you don't need a lot, but you need more than 1 set, just the same for those times you'd have 1-3 guests over for dinner. Thus, a starter set of 16 pieces would be just right.

Corelle is one of the best out there and a good one is its Hearthstone Stoneware Round 16-Piece Dinnerware set that includes 10-1/2-inch dinner plate, 7-1/2-inch salad plate, 20-ounce soup/cereal bowl, and 14-ounce mug. It is made of durable stoneware with 5 solid colour options. What's great is it is modern and Asian-influenced in design that shows in its black exterior. Plus, it is safe for use in the oven, microwave, and dishwasher. It also comes with a 1-year chip warranty. The set currently sells at $59.17

For something more stylish, try another set by Corelle, the 16-piece Dinner Set with Whimsical Dots at $69.99. It's a 6-pc durable Vitrelle glass dinnerware set, including square bowls, mugs, square dinner plates, and square salad plates. The set also has white with blue swirl and polka dots pattern for that touch of sophistication. They're break- and chip-resistant, as well as dishwasher and microwave safe.

Want a masculine look? The Pfaltzgraff 16 Piece Dinnerware Set tagged $80 would be a good option. It has lively lines and bold shapes on the 16-piece Empire dinnerware set that are underscored by the sleek, urban minimalism of its glazes. The set includes 4 of each dinner plate, mug, salad plate, and soup/cereal bowl.

Why You Should Not Buy Designer Handbags?

For every woman accessories like handbags, ornaments, and makeup are equally important in their apparel because people, especially men, perceive a woman’s life-style and personality from her accessories. Out of these items, one of the most vital accessories is the handbag. Men observe that stylish and fashionable females who like to party or socialize at red-carpeted celebrations mainly carry clutches and small size purses. Whereas big size handbags are related to teenagers, who go to high school or college and designer bags are linked with professional females who are high-profiled and hold some prominent position at their workplace.

However, reality is slightly different – not every executive female can afford to carry a designer handbag worth thousands of pounds. Therefore, they fall for replicas. Females satisfy their desire for fine and hip handbags by buying some decent enough replicas of original brands. This is acceptable also. What is there in originality, if you can get moderate quality and the same looks at a much cheaper price? What is the harm in taking advantage of that? Anyways, you are not doing any crime or disrespecting anyone by doing that.

Moreover, it isn’t really necessary to go for a replica of some superior brand; rather you can always buy some unbranded or economically priced handbags from companies that target the middle class market. Any such bag will not cost you more than 250 pounds or so. Therefore, do not blindly fall for only super expensive designer handbags – instead, be practical and make the most of your money with cool, fashionable, high quality, yet pocket friendly handbags.

WATER DISPENSER SELECTIONS

One doesn’t always have to open the refrigerator in order to grab a glass of water. This is why every decent household needs a good water dispenser to make it easier for hosts and guests alike. Of course, these water dispensers don’t just dispense water; they condition it to be warm, cold or room temperature. However, even with such necessities bargains are still possible.
The Haier Water Dispenser WDNS055 is a normal water dispenser which allows the user to get either warm or cold water with the simple use of the button. It comes with a removable drip tray for easy cleanup and hot water child safety guard to ensure the welfare and convenience of families who use the product. The color is a plain white and the design is simple enough to blend into any background. The cost of the refrigerator, along with shipping is $198.
The Avanti Water Dispenser, on the other hand, is a similar water dispenser with the same removable drip tray and hot water child safety guard. The reservoir of the product is stainless steel. The only difference of this product is that it requires assembly, which can be done by anyone easily. The product cost is at $110.
The only question now is whether the $88 deficit between the products is worth the assembly time saved with the Haier Water Dispenser. The natural answer, however, of anyone asked if they would assemble something for $88 is a resounding “yes.” Thus, the Avanti Water Dispenser is definitely the safer and more economical choice between the two products.

SPAGHETTI STRAP BLOUSE

Spaghetti Straps generally make women feel sexier, and one could even argue that they immediately raise the appeal of any woman wearing them. They are essential parts of women’s clothing that should not be ignored or underestimated. Moreover, spaghetti strap tank tops aren’t that expensive and it shouldn’t be hard to find bargain prices for them, but as with everything else, there are good buys and bad buys.
For a good example, let us start with looking at the Gear One Cream Skull Spaghetti Strap Women's Tank Top available at Musician’s Friend for $18, give or take. The tank top is purple with a really distracting skull, which makes the spaghetti strap immediately less feminine and less attractive than any normal spaghetti strap. Also, $18 is very expensive for a mediocre spaghetti strap tank top.
Compare this to the Reebok Cincinnati Bengals Women’s Spaghetti Strap Tank Top which only shows a simple logo of Reebok. This sells for $15, $3 less than the mediocre tank top mentioned above. The logo is a simple type of design but it works in this case and puts more emphasis on the curvaceous body of the wearer.
Looking at things from this perspective, the Reebok Spaghetti Strap Tank Top is flat out a better choice than the Gear One tank top due to the look and economic benefits that the Reebok offers. There are more bargains like this; it’s just a matter of having the patience to find them online or in stores nationwide.

Quick And Easy With Digital Scales

If you are a cook or a baker, you no doubt will have some sort of scales in your cupboard for measuring and weighing foods. Not many of us can literally throw handfuls of ingredients into a bowl and out comes dinner or a cake!

I have to tell you about my set of scales. I had the ones that have the round display on the front with the container on top. If I measured 4 ozs butter twice, the result would never be the same.

Then I discovered digital scales. Nothing will prepare of the easiness of the digital scales. Basically it is the precision of the scales that make them so wonderful. You can also ‘tare’ them so you can weigh 8 oz of flour, then push the tare button and the readout goes to zero so you can weigh 4 oz sugar.

You can also place the bowl you are measuring things into, then press a button and it returns the scales to zero. It makes baking and cooking much easier tasks.

No need to remember numbers in your head or weigh things separately. There is a huge range of different scales and basically you can find some to suit your décor or needs in the kitchen

These scales are fantastic and at $50, they can be quite pricey.
However, if that is out of your price range, never fear! Here are some that are reasonable for $10. Yes $10!

CLASSIC COFFEE BREWER SELECTIONS

Morning coffee is an essential part of everybody’s day. Coffee relieves people of their drowsiness and allows them to act more lively during the busy mornings of their lives. Sometimes, this liveliness can be the difference between another day at the job and a spectacular promotion. This justifies a coffee brewer as a worthy investment as it is part of one’s preparation for work. The thing is that it can be a good investment or a bad one, depending on the coffee brewer one purchases.
One of the most popular brands in the coffee brewer industry is Bunn-O-Matic, and for personal brewing, the Bunn-O-Matic BTX-B ThermoFresh 10-Cup Coffee Brewer stands out at its affordable $134 price tag, including shipping. It can brew ten cups of coffee in three minutes and also consistently keeps coffee hot without overheating.
On the other hand, there is the BUNN BXB Black BX Classic Home Coffee Brewer which only costs $80 total and offers exactly the same benefits. The only difference between the two products is the name and date of development.
The thing is, with the emergence of these “new” coffee brewers, have people really tasted a vast difference in the taste of their coffee? Given the fact that the taste of coffee generally hasn’t changed much despite these developments and the even more convincing fact that the two products do the same things at the same rates, it is fairly obvious that the BUNN BXB’s $50 savings are something to behold.
Thus the BUNN BXB Black BX Classic Home Coffee Brewer receives preference over its Bunn-O-Matic counterpart.

GAS RANGES ON A BUDGET

Mothers generally love cooking. Plenty of mothers actually go out of their way to visit culinary schools in order to improve their cooking skills and eventually make their families happier with excellent food everyday. In order to practice cooking efficiently, one has to purchase a decent gas range with which to cook. Let’s face it; this is the only competitive advantage restaurants have over regular home cooked meals. However, one doesn’t have to spend more than $1000 on a professional level gas range.
Let’s compare the Premier - 36" Freestanding Gas Range - Stainless-Steel, which is a professional gas range that costs more than $1200, to the HOTPOINT RGB508PPAAD Hotpoint(R) 30"" Free-Standing Gas Range, which only costs $241.
The only difference is that the Premier Freestanding Gas Range is six inches larger and has two more available stoves with which one can cook with. However, one of the main things to consider when cooking at home is that one doesn’t really cook in mass. The most magical and delicious aspect of home cooking is that the food was cooked specifically for a person and not anonymously like the food most people get in restaurants and fast foods.
Also, by choosing the Hotpoint Freestanding Gas Range, one saves nearly $1000 which can then be used on the best ingredients for cooking. The only thing one gives up is the prestige of having restaurant quality equipment at one’s disposal. Then again, true prestige can be attained by seeing the satisfied faces of people who enjoyed a wonderfully cooked meal. Overall, it makes less sense to purchase a $1000 device when one can easily work with one that’s 80% cheaper.

MOBILE EASE WITH A PORTABLE DVD PLAYER

There are people, based on their personality type, who like to read, study, or work in an upright position, seated in a chair. There are others, however, who'd prefer to sit in bed or lie on their stomachs. The latter type are the same when watching videos, and probably one of the reasons portable DVD players were invented.

The most popular of these appliances would be the Sony DVPFX810 Portable DVD Player tagged at $129.99. It has an 8-inch LCD with a 16:9 aspect ratio that really fits movies to a tee. Its swivel and flip screen offers multiple viewing angles that make it a favourite, wherever you happen to be watching -- in bed, riding a car or an airplane, or lazing at the beach. It has colour and brightness controls, a wireless remote, and weighs only 2.4 lbs. or 1kg. The player accommodates DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W, CD-R, and CD-RW, allowing you to play discs burned from your computer of music, videos, or photos.

Although you might want to grab the Sony player at once, it's always best to compare it first with your other options. Another favoured player by those on a tighter budget is the Coby TF-DVD7107 7-Inch Portable DVD Player now discounted at $89.99 (originally $94.99). It has a compact 7-Inch screen with also 16:9 aspect ratio that comes with AV outputs for use with home theatre systems and a headphone jack for private listening. Plays DVD/DVD+R/RW/CD/CD-R/RW/MP3 and JPEG formats, allowing you to listen to do the same thing the Sony player would.

Coby electronics are quite popular for their low cost, although its quality is lower than the Sony's.

FINDING YOUR TOASTER FIX

When our toasters break down, we might find ourselves wanting for that toast every morning. Breakfast is the time for toast, along with reading a book, a newspaper, and watching some morning TV shows. But nothing beats having toast in the porch with your neighbours running past you. Of course, in order to have that experience, you need to have a toaster and there is a good selection that you can find on the budget.

The Back to Basics Egg & Muffin Toaster is black with silver accents and looks basically like an extra curvy toaster with small round compartment attached for the non-toasting functions. It has the lever to pop the bread up or down, and another to set toasting to either light or dark. Four other buttons can be used to set the toaster to prepare toast only, egg only, and toast and egg; quite a combination for such a versatile toaster.

The round section of the toaster holds a silver heating tray, where you can put the different tools that come with it the warming tray, poaching tray, steamer tray, and lid. A measuring cup is included to help with the egg poaching function. Who knew? And it only costs $27.

All the other toasters looked plain and boring after that, even the KitchenAid Two-Slice Toaster that was supposedly the number one bestseller. Well, it's more expensive, at $49.99, after all.

So, the B-2B Egg & Muffin Toaster is a great replacement for most broken toasters.

SELECTING ROOM AIRCONDITIONERS

One of the most common problems in households all around the world is the effect the weather has on the entire house. It’s difficult to tell what today weird weather will bring next and therefore every house must have a reliable air conditioner that is capable of cooling the house. This is especially useful due to the recent trend of global warming which will eventually affect larger parts of the world.
However, there is something that is called “value for money,” and the purchase of an air conditioner must be well thought out. A good example is the comparison between the Frigidaire - 5000 BTU Room Air Conditioner and the Heat Controller, Inc. RAD-61-5 - 6000Btu Air Conditioner. The former costs $130 and the latter $200.
The difference between the two is that the Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner is an efficient cooler of rooms while the Heat Controller works in two ways. The main thing one has to consider here is if the $70 difference in price is enough to justify an extra function.
Of course, these air conditioners have different roles in different weathers. In places where conditions vary from hot to cold, the Heat Controller may become the best choice of air conditioning. In dominantly warm and tropical countries, however, the Frigidaire can get the job done just as well and for $70 cheaper, talk about bargain!
So, depending on where one lives, there is a potential $70 savings especially she considers only what she needs and manages her funds wisely.

Metallic Fabric

I love my home, it is just the right size for us and I have been inspired by the home makeover shows that have taken over the television these days. I must admit I also love looking at the home interior magazine. Who wouldn’t want their house looking like one of those gorgeous homes featured in the magazines or on the television shows? I know I would truly love it!

One of these days my dream will come true, but in the meantime I decided to try and makeover my home in a few subtle ways; just make it a bit warmer and cosier. I had to think of the budget, not much space in there for a full makeover of all my rooms. So I will just add the small things, like cushions, prints and the like.

I think one of the next big things to hit home furnishings is metallic fabric. These can include cushions, linens and other soft furnishings made out of the metallic fabric. I love the copper and the silver – it just adds warmth to a room, I think. If you really want to take the plunge you could try bed linen. However, if you aren’t too sure about that, try cushions or throw pillows in a similar shade as your home décor first, and then work your way up.

I found this lovely brass cushion for $50. If the price is out of your range then try Target for this one at $10. Gorgeous aren’t they? I think they are just beautiful and shimmery.

BLOWN AWAY BY BUDGET HAIR DRYERS

On days where I am in a rush or when the alarm clock fails to wake me up with enough time to dry my hair properly; a neat ponytail would be the natural solution. Unfortunately, I've sometimes missed letting my hair down.

My hairstylist, whom I've trusted my tresses with for half a decade now, swears by the Elchim 2001, which is allegedly "the number one professional hairdryer in the world." It has a double switch, two speed options, and four kinds of temperatures. Thing is, I wasn't so sure I wanted to invest $74.99 in equipment that just might damage my hair, despite the promise I made to myself to only use it on Mondays (so I'd look great at the start of the week) and Fridays (for night outs, with or without a date).

My girlfriends rave about the BabyBliss Pro Turbo blow dryer and the BabyBliss Pro Ceramix Xtreme hairdryer. The Pro Turbo has a powerful AC motor, four temperature settings, and an 8mm concentrator nozzle priced at $54.99. On the other hand, the Pro Ceramix Xtreme makes use of ceramic technology, professional AC motor, and has soft, rubberized casing. For only $29.99 at that!

After weighing my options and reminding myself that I plan to only use the hairdryer twice a week, it was definitely the lightweight, non-static Ceramix Xtreme hairdryer for me.

With the BabyBliss Pro Ceramix Xtreme in my shopping bag, I walk with pride and a big smile on my face at the sensible decision I made and dash off to my favourite cosmetic store to celebrate with a new lipstick. Cheers!

SILVER PUFFS DRESSES

Silver dresses come in many shades and sizes but we rarely wear one unless the occasion calls for it. Maybe like a grand reunion with a prom theme? Silver is a great natural colour that will go with a few select colour choices. That is why finding the right gleam is crucial in wearing a silver dress perfectly. Silver is also great for cocktail dresses, allowing us to shine subtly among other ladies. The key to getting this shine to emanate from you is to buy the dress that suits you.

I first found the Debbie Shuchat Silver Leaf Tunic Dress. This Debbie Shuchat is a white tunic dress with large, silver, floral prints. It features a point collar and three-button placket and has three-quarter-length sleeves. This dress goes at a fair $172. It certainly stands out, but it also looked a bit too casual.

On the other hand, there is also this metallic sleeveless shift-style bubble dress. It's a sassy a-line mini dress and features exaggerated puff sleeves adorned with silver sequins. The same sequins adorn pouch pockets just above the bottom part of the dress. All for a price of $93.99 which is a fair steal compared to the Debbie Shuchat Silver Leaf Tunic Dress.

If you are not a fan of silver dresses, it won’t hurt to try them out. They are meant to draw attention as much as you want them to be. With a wide selection of silver dresses, you can find the elegance that you are looking for.

LADY SNEAKERS FOR NIGHT OUTS

Corporate events can catch us cold. Just imagine a busy week tending to the home and work and suddenly the husband – kind as he is – invites you to his corporate affair. It will really seem a hectic proposition if you do not have the apparel to boot. Thus, you really have to sort your outfit to a tee.

There are an extraordinary number of things that we certainly can’t wear to a function such as this – much as we might like to after a hectic week – so we need to choose carefully. A smart casual dress to a corporate event seems appropriate. However, we might be caught in out in our tracks if we do not have the right shoes. Sneakers in a corporate event? It is plausible.

If you do not know what shoes to wear, you can start with Mary Jane type of sneakers. The Merrell Encore MJ shoes are flexible with a no-slip grip sole that always keep your feet cool. This pair of shoes is priced at $69.95. However, it might become too sporty for you and it might not come in white.

If you bully the salesperson enough she will show you the Sketchers Leading Lady in white. It's made of smooth leather and eyelet fabric in casual MJ, with stitching accents, stretch band, and easy slip on fit; plus, cushioned interior and traction outsole. Best of all, it was on sale at $38.49.

Finding a smart casual shoe that will go with your attire is a tricky deal, but if you hit it right, you will impress a lot of people.

Decals

One of the new looks at the moment is decals for your wall, doors, windows – any flat surface. They are generally made from vinyl and many can be repositioned when your mood strikes! They are popping up everywhere, and you have to check them out.

The great thing about them is that they come in a huge range of designs and colours, suitable for the dining room, the bedroom or the baby’s nursery. The designs can include silhouettes, letters, sayings and pictures. A lot of decal suppliers have them packaged as themes, so you can buy a farm theme or a bird theme or an outer space theme for example. Others have single decals so you can make a bold statement.

I am not an interior designer but I believe that these are truly the next big thing to hit our walls, whether at home or the office. A search on the Internet will bring a whole range to your fingertips.

Cool Art Canvas and Elly Nelly have more exclusive types.

I happened upon a site What is blik, which has a whole range of decals. The prices can be $60 - $80 and can go down to $25 for a package of 4. Now that is my sort of price!

I couldn’t go without checking out Etsy to see if there were any on there. Etsy is a wonderful site that has craft and homemade items for sale from the creator. The search on ‘wall decals’ brings a huge range and prices… they start from $4.

Check it out, you will not be sorry!

FINDING THE PERFECT WRAP-AROUND DRESS

Every respectable woman needs a wrap around dress because there are times when we could care less about our weight. Sometimes moms worry too much, that worrying about weight, just weights on their mind, if you know what I mean. Good thing the invention of the wrap around dress came along during our era. The wrap around dress is essential to the collection of any self-respecting and partially carefree busy woman.
But again, as with everything, one must always remember to try and get value for money. I’ve compared and contrasted two decent looking wrap around dresses at two severely different prices. One wrap around dress is plain and classic black, made by a brand called Chaps. It definitely looks elegant and comfortable enough to wear to any kind of social occasion or party. It’s also way too easy to accessorize to because of its simplicity and classic color.
On the other hand, we have a typical floral printed wrap-around dress that I can have custom-made at my favorite tailor shop. Despite the additional thought I have to put when accessorizing with the floral outfit, the price more than makes up for the hassle.
The floral wrap around dress is available for $29 while the classic black by Chaps costs nearly $80. That’s a big price difference for two similar products that give exactly the same benefits. I definitely suggest getting the floral wrap around dress due to the savings available, with the only drawback being an extra five minutes in deciding my accessories for the day.

Barcelona Chairs

Whenever I check out my favourite interior design magazines, I always see the Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Chair. I have had the pleasure of sitting in one and I thought it was the classiest and comfiest chair I have ever been seated in. While sitting in it I truly thought I was it and a bit. It is such a classy chair.

Of course, with all that class comes a large price tag. A true original will set you back a cool $4,000. If you want the matching footstool – and well, who wouldn’t – that will cost an extra $2,000. You can check it out here at All Modern. They come in cream and black leather. Just gorgeous.

Hmmm… but a bit pricey, wouldn’t you think? Well I do, so I headed to Matt Blatt to check out his prices. He is well known in Australia for having fantastic replica furniture for realistic prices. The Barcelona chair here is on sale for $599. Usually $2,000. (in Australian dollars)

Of course, that may be a bit out of your price range as well (it is mine!) so I checked out another favourite website and found a Barcelona inspired chair there for $480.

This chair is made out of real leather also, so it’s a good price. This website also carries the Mies van der Rohe inspired range. The lounges, the footstool and something we all should have, the loveseat. The loveseat is $749 from this site, whereas the designer price is $4800.

WHITE POLOS THAT FIT WELL

A must in any mother’s collection is a white polo that fits well. They are okay to wear in any non-formal event and having too many of them is an excellent problem to have. The thing is, when buying too much of something, it reaches a very high expense total. Therefore, along with the quality of the white polo shirts, the economy of the products must also be taken into account.
Looking around the net, two distinct white polo shirts stood out; the first being the Izod Solid Polo that goes for $25.20. The polo fits just right and the buttons are well in place, giving off a cool, youthful vibe for the wearer. The price tag is a bit hefty but that is to be expected when dealing with high profile brands such as Izod. But is it worth it?
Let’s take a look at the second choice also found in the internet. The Merona V-neck polo is trendier and hipper version of the classic white polo that endears the fashion conscious so much. It definitely has a younger feel to it due to the unconventional fashion design. The best part about it is that the Merona V-neck is half the price of the Izod at $13. Talk about a steal!
In buying shirts in bulk, one must take into account the price. This awareness has helped me a lot because not only did I find a cheaper product, I also found a way better white polo.

Prada Fairy Bag Inspired Replicas

Prada. Who doesn’t love Prada? The clothes, the bags, the shoes. I love the handbags. I love the clutches, the totes, the bowler bag, I love them all. But when I saw the Prada Fairy bag – WOW, I was in love. I knew I wanted it, I knew I needed it! It is so gorgeous and so different!

Look at this fabulous bag! The fairy bag being spotted all over the place on the arms of many celebrities. It is online here for $2300. It is beautiful though. It is a collector’s item and was sold out at Niemen Marcus after being on sale for 2 days! Crazy!

Well, I am not paying over 2 grand for a bag. As much as I love them, I can buy many, many bags or other things for that kind of money. So I go searching. Here is what I found. There are many Prada Fairy bag inspired replicas. It is important to look for inspired replicas and not knock offs. The fakes try to pass their bags off as their own. Not good!

I have searched high and low and for one thing I cannot believe that people are making fakes and selling them on the Internet. You have to be so careful!

If you cannot buy a designer bag, consider renting one. The Fairy bag is here for $117 a week.

Here is one that is inspired by the Prada Fairy Bag for $299 (US), a great price to snag one of the hottest looks this season.

Magazine Holders

If you are anything like me, you love magazines. There is something about those glossy pages that makes buying a magazine a wonderful experience. How exciting is it to find one that suits you down to the ground and if it is also reasonably priced, even better!

Then once you get home and have 20 minutes, there is nothing like sitting down with a cup of tea or coffee and flicking through your brand new magazine.

Whether you buy them, receive them or borrow them; you need somewhere in your home to store the magazines. Even if you pass them on, you need somewhere to put them while you are reading them. What you need is a magazine holder!

I really love the leather basket type magazine holders. I think they look amazing and also look like the hold plenty of magazines, which is important! There are different designs and colours, so getting one to match the décor in the style you like will be simple.

The leather ones can be expensive. Well anything with leather generally is. Here is one I found for over $400!

So I decided to get a leather look one – the amazing leather look for a fraction of the cost. Amazon has this one for $40 I think it looks fantastic. These ones come in different colours and designs also. It will be easy to find one that suits your home. For this price I think I will be able to buy two and have one in my bedroom as well.

DESIGNER BREAD TOASTERS

Every day starts off with toasting bread. We toast bread for our husbands who goes to work early in the morning and for our children who go to school an hour or so after their father leaves. At times, however, toasting takes time – but it doesn’t have to, not with the new technologies surrounding the toaster industry.

As we enter the market for a new toaster, we find two targets that are worthy of our money: The Dualit Classic Bread Toaster 4-Slice and The Cadco 4 Slice Pop-up Toaster. The prices are around the same, the former being at $319.99 and the latter being $290.00.

The difference between the two is minimal. Obviously the Cadco toaster is cheaper by a good $30 but an additional feature of the Classic Bread Toaster is that it can toast 1, 2, 3 or 4 slices at one time while the Cadco can only do 2 or 4 slices at a time. In some situations, the Classic Bread Toaster saves more energy than the Cadco.

In aesthetic appeal, the Classic Bread Toaster wins with its more continental look, compared to the plain steel look of the Cadco. Overall, the Classic Bread Toaster is more appealing as the extra $30 I can be paid back in the electricity bills. Moreover, the design must always be nice to match the kitchen. I refuse to let something that looks generic sit near my kitchen counter. Perhaps not in price, but in substance and style, the Classic trumps the Cadco.

Eames Inspired Chairs

A classic piece of designer furniture is the Moulded Plywood Dining Chair by Ray and Charles Eames. It is one the most recognised pieces of furniture, even though it was designed in 1946! I really love the simple and classic design. It really would go well with any décor. Per chair they are about $1200 from the designer.

This link also shows the Herman Miller – Nelson table with stainless steel legs and wooden top. The chair themselves can also have wooden or stainless steel legs. The great thing about buying per chair is that you can buy them according to the dining table you wish to have, or already have.

There are many, many replicas from the Eames design. Thankfully the price is less than the designer price – making them far more affordable for the average consumer. There are several outlets where you can get them.

My favourite replica designer, Matt Blatt has each chair for $680, although currently they are on special for $295.

I have also found them online for around $279 per chair and you can have wooden legs or stainless steel legs. You can also choose the finish you would like.

If you want to continue the look into your lounge room, you are in luck! The Eames inspired chair is also available in a lounge chair. For $299 per chair you can have them in your lounge room as well.

I was able to find the Eames inspired chair with wooden legs for even less! $225 per chair and I just love the look.

OSTERIZERS AND BLENDERS

When guests come into the household, it is natural to serve them drinks. However, all of us don’t want to be in just any kind of household. We want to be able to serve drinks that are different from what guests usually experience when they visit other peoples’ homes. Thus, when we decide to buy an Osterizer to allow me to get creative with the drinks we make, finding the right item will be a challenge. Our osterizer can distinguish our house from all the other people’s homes.
The problem arises in selecting an apt and economical appliance that’ll do just the job. Selecting between the Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, which is priced at $70, and the Osterizer Classic Blender (4093-8) priced at a cheaper $60, we can find differences to be subtle yet deal-breakers at the same time.

Looking at the specs of both devices, both products generally do the same things. The only difference is that the 4094 has a more futuristic design which might be desirable for the new, continental trend in interior design. However, when we take another look at the design, we find that its appeal is more classical than modern. Therefore, the 4093-8 osterizer being the classic machine is a better fit for most homes, although you cannot go wrong with the other.

This tells us that old and cheap isn’t necessarily bad. Sometimes classic means elegant, and in this case, it is definitely so. The 4093-8 seems to be the more appealing choice.

CHOOSING BUDGET ELECTRIC FANS

During those summer nights when everyone is sweaty and tired, the mother has to find a way to keep the big boy and the small children perky enough to enjoy their long-deserved vacation. Heat is not an object as electric fan technology keeps taking steps forward. What evolved from swaying arms are machines that can create winter with the flick of a switch. But who makes the best electric fans?

There are two separate brands of electric cooling devices and find them very comparable, despite a slight discrepancy in prices. The Hayden brand and the Vornado brand are the two electric fans that I’ve considered buying.

Aesthetically, the Hayden looks more attractive as the Vornado looks quite plump and too hi-tech for a home appliance. However, the two brands offer the same type of cooling, but it is quite contestable that the Vornado is a lot stronger than the Hayden, moving air more than 65 feet away from it. The fat shape has something to do with the effectiveness of the fan.

The final question has to be asked: “Form or function?” For me, I think the Vornado is the better choice because basically it does its job better. While it looks like a device from a science fiction movie, surely that doesn’t make summer less fun for anyone does it? The price difference isn’t anything to scoff at too, by choosing Vornado ($50) over the Hayden ($70); one has a good $20 to spend on a well deserved shopping trip.

Wine Glasses

All homes have some kind of glassware, whether it is water glasses, beer glasses, tall glasses, wine glasses or short glasses. In my home, I have all different types of glassware, although mainly water glasses and wine glasses.

Wine glasses are a necessity at dinner parties or for that glass of wine at the end of a long day. The majority of the time, they are designed with a stem, and this can make them easy to break and hard to wash. Many just won’t fit into the dishwasher, and some that do won’t survive the washing!

When I saw these ones I knew that I had to have them. What a fantastic idea – stem-less wine glasses! I saw these glasses at Pottery Barn.

A set of 6 is $42. Not too bad a price. Although at Linen and Things I was able to find these at a much cheaper price. $20 for 12 glasses, 6 white and 6 red.

Buying glasses in sets is great and you may think that is the only way you can buy them. I think if you are able to, buy them singly. This way, if one is broken then you just have to buy one to complete a ‘set’ again.

Here I found some on the Internet that you can buy at $1.95 - $2.00 each. This is a truly economical way to buy wine glasses. A fantastic gift idea as well, I would imagine that not many people have the new and groovy stem-less wine glasses.

Handbag Organisers

We women have all sorts of things that we have to carry these days. Wallets, phones, PDA’s, iPods, sunglasses, lip gloss, mints, keys, nail file, etc, etc – and that is just the stuff for us. We must also take into account anything we need to carry for the other half, or the kids.

We all want to have a matching bag or purse for our outfit or outing, so we are quite likely to change the bag depending on our outfit or the occasion. The changing over of all the things that we carry can be annoying, and the risk of forgetting something is greater. I came across the fantastic idea of a handbag or purse organiser. A space for everything.

How wonderful to have a bag organiser for every bag you have! You just have to lift the organiser out of the bag you are using into the one you want to use. What a wonderful and simple way of keeping organised. It really will change your life.

Not only will it make the swap over of bags simple, it will also make finding things in your bag easier. No more rummaging around in your bag for those keys or the lip gloss. They will be in the same spot all the time in any bag. The organisers come in different sizes and colours.

I found this handbag insert online for $120.
Hmmm, bit pricey for me, and so here is another similar one from Amazon for a much cheaper price at $25.

GroBags

Being a new parent is a wonderful time, and it can also be a worrying time. You question every decision and everything new the baby does makes you worry or wonder. It is such a nerve-wracking time! You just want everything to be right for them.

Babies love to sleep. It is truly amazing those first few months, watching them sleep soundly in their bassinets and cribs. Once they get that little bit older, they start to move around the crib, and then they are kicking all their sheets and blankets off. Now you have to worry about them getting cold at night! Once they are cold, they generally wake up. But of course you don’t want them to get too hot either. Oh all this worry!

Well worry no more; there are baby sleeping bags out there that are amazing. Basically they have arm holes in them, the baby slides in and the bag is then attached on their shoulders. These bags are perfect as they cannot take their arms out and they cannot throw or wiggle out of their bedding. They are SIDS safe also.

GroBags are one type. The good thing about GroBags is that they come in different thicknesses, so you can have one for summer and one for the cooler months. There are many different designs and a few different sizes. Here I found a GroBag one from Amazon. This one is $60.

Here is one that is basically the same as the GroBag but doesn’t have the price tag. This one is $25.

Pot Plant Holders

Having a few pot plants around in the home makes it more welcoming and homely, whether inside or out. Nice tan terracotta pot plant holders look really great with lush green plants or even a small shrub.

Terracotta also looks fantastic against any backdrop. The beauty of pot plant holders is that they can be easily moved around if you tire of a particular look. They can also be taken with you if you move or if you are renting.

Plants in a gorgeous terracotta pot plant holder can be given as a gift. If you normally give flowers, consider spending the same money on a pot plant holder as it will not die and the recipient will enjoy your gift for longer.

Terracotta pots can be found at any garden shop. Here is a wonderful terracotta pot, although at $76 a pot, you may only be able to afford one! These pots come in a huge range of sizes and shapes.

As terracotta can be quite heavy, it may be hard for some people to use and move around. I found these pot plant holders that look the same, are so much lighter in material and cost. Really is a wonderful solution if you love the look of terracotta but cannot use it.

Plus it means that you can have several around the house without too much outlay. For $14 a pot, it really is a great price. You should be able to find these at any garden shop also.

Filofax

Being organized is a skill. One I am not too sure I have quite mastered as yet. Whether or not you have mastered it, I think we all need help.

One way to be organised is to have a diary or calendar to enter your appointments and things to do in. You can also have people’s contact details on hand. There are various ways you can choose to keep things organised in this way.

Some people prefer electronic devices like a PDA or mobile phone. Some people like to use an online calendar. Other people prefer to use a paper diary or book. Personally I prefer to hand write things down in a diary. To keep all the information in the same place, one thing I think helps is a Filofax.

They are a diary with an address book, calendar, and oh so much more. They come in different sizes and colours. You can also get handy refills year to year, so there is no need to transfer a whole lot of information every time the New Year arrives.

Here is a gorgeous red coloured leather Filofax for $105, so they can be pricey as well. It has the diary, calendar, to do lists and many other things.

I found one here for $9.95. It’s not leather but it looks just the same as leather. It also has the diary, which can be replaced with refills, calendar, contacts; all contained in a leather look outer folder. Very, very handy and comes in different sizes and designs for different tastes.

Label Makers

A great way to get and stay organised at home is to make sure that everybody knows where everything goes. It’s great for you, if you are the one that sorts the house out, because you know where you want everything to go. But what about the others? Get them to help around the place and make it easier for them by using a label maker to label where to put things in cupboards. Make it easier for yourself and your husband come tax time by having everything organised and labelled. You won’t be tempted just to shove it in a drawer and leave it till after.

Also when the kids go to pre-school and school, it will help them remember their things if they are all labelled with their names. Sure you can buy the name packs off the Internet but it is more cost effective if you get a label maker and do them yourself. You can get vinyl, paper and cloth label tape so you can attach them to anything. The vinyl ones last through the dishwasher and the fabric ones last through the washing machine. A great investment.

There are label makers that you can hook up to the computer and use. There are also stand alone ones. These are better as they are portable and make it easier for you to use in your every day life.

This one on Amazon is $103

This one does the same job and comes with 2 tapes; it is $29.

Rocking Chairs

The minute we ladies get pregnant, it seems the nesting instinct kicks in. We need to get that nursery all set up and ready in case the baby comes now. It doesn’t matter that we still have months to go.

Choosing furniture for the nursery is so hard. From that first decision on what colour to paint, or using white or brown wood – and it doesn’t get easier from there. The ranges out there are huge and there is so much available. If you are the first time parent you think you have to buy it all and it can be so overwhelming. Not at all, there are a few key pieces you need. One of them, I think, is a rocking or glider rocking chair.

The rocking chair is fantastic for middle of the night feeds and also great for soothing a fussy baby. Or even when you just want to watch your baby sleep which sometimes you can spend hours doing. I would never be without one. The rocking motion is so gentle and soothing, the babies just seem to love it.

Once you have decided the look of the nursery, you’ll have to seriously consider getting one. Also, consider getting the matching ottoman that comes with it. That will make all the difference.

Here is one type that looks great, but at $330 (and on special at that price!) it is not something everyone can afford.

Here is another one that I think achieves the same look and function for a lot less at $125.

Diaper Bags

Once you have a baby you realise just how many things you need to take with you when you go out. Even when you want to just pop to the shops you need to worry about food, clothing and diapers. Especially clothing as some babies can go through several outfits a day for various reasons.

The best way to carry all this stuff is in a diaper or nappy bag. It is a big bag and can be used like a tote or a backpack. The bag usually has several zippered compartments, a change mat, an insulated area for the bottles and food and a waterproof section for wet and soiled things.

I remember a day when they were either blue or black – dull and boring non-stylish bags. Thankfully the designers have realised this is an area of the market that could be captured and made the diaper bag much brighter and stylish, although these do come with the designer price tag. Check this one out from Nordstorm. It is called a Storksak – isn’t that a cute name? A gorgeous leather diaper bag for $285.

Thankfully I was able to find this one from Walmart. This one is $17.

We must remember the daddies, so special mention for this one from Amazon. It is called the Diaper Dude, made especially for the dads and it’s $52. Now there is no excuse for dads not to take the baby off your hands for a little while and take them for a walk.
