Since I do a lot of cooking at home, I have been on the look out for some appliances to make my time in the kitchen shorter as well as more productive.
We eat a lot of rice and a lot of steam vegetables here as not only are they very nutritious for you, they are also very cheap to make. Especially if you have the vegies already growing in the backyard!
I thought a rice cooker could help me out. I had been using the stovetop method but this has resulted in gluggy rice, I just cannot get the rice to the right consistency I wanted.
Plus I had read that with some rice cookers, you can actually use them to make risottos, steam your veg and make rice pudding. That definitely sounds like something that will help me in the kitchen. Especially if I can hey the rice cooking the way I wanted it.
Yes it may seem like it is yet another kitchen appliance on the kitchen bench but I think the benefits outweigh the worry of this, especially if you eat rice more than once a week.
I have been doing some searching ant there really is so many different types that you can get. Also different colours so you can have it out on your bench if you so desire.
Here is a really good one at the top end of the rice cooker market for $135.
Here is another one that I think will preform just as well and for a cheaper price at $15.

Slow But Terrible Slow Cooker
Being a busy mum is an exhausting but exciting role to have. Looking after the children, running the household, keeping things organised really is very challenging and tiring. I am always on the look out for things that are going to make my life easier.
I believe slow cookers do that for me. I have one and it is truly a busy woman’s, whether she is a mum or not, best friend in the kitchen.
With a slow cooker, all you have to do is assemble your meal either the night before and put in the fridge or in the morning, then put it into the slow cooker. You then switch it on, it slowly cooks all day and you come home to a wonderful meal.
You can make so many things in them. Roasts, curries, stroganoff. I have done meatballs, lasagne, meatloaf, even a chickpea curry. Because the meat is slowly cooking all day, that tenderises the meat so that means you can use cheaper cuts of meat meaning your grocery budget will be less. It will also stop the 5pm pull your hair out time of what to have for dinner.
Trust me on this, you have to get one and try it for yourself. The slow cooker will come with a booklet of ideas or you head down to the library or search on the Internet for the myriad of meals you can cook. You can even make yummy desserts!
Macy’s have a Kitchen Aid 7 quart one for $130. Target.com have a similar one, a Hamilton Beach the same size for $40.

Comfy Crocs
Who hasn’t heard of Crocs? Well if you haven’t let me enlighten you then. Crocs are the new shoe to be seen in. They are made out of a lightweight material and have little bumps in the inside soles. They are very comfortable for your feet.
Because they are so lightweight, your feet feel like they are walking on air. Fantastic for walking around the house in or down the beach. They have little holes in the design too, so your feet tend not to sweat as much while you are wearing them.
I bought mine when I was pregnant as they were wide enough for my swelling feet and light enough for my weary body and slip on and off enough as once heavily pregnant you cannot reach down and put your own shoes on! They are cool and very comfortable. Really perfect for the late stage of pregnancy.
There is a whole range of colours and we are just starting to see a whole range of designs as well now. The whole family is catered for and the designs are including more normal looking type of shoes with the fabulous comfortable sole.
As with most designer items, there are originals and there are those that are not. The originals are available on the crocs website for $30.
Here I found some that are non-designer, that is, croc inspired at Target.com if you want the look for less. For $9 it is a cheap way to achieve this.

Cupcake Courier
I love cooking and baking anything really. I love making cupcakes and muffins especially as they are just the right serving size and you don’t have to worry about cutting the right sized slice of cake. Especially handy when there are lots of kids around! It also saves having to carry a serving knife with you.
Imagine my delight when a friend told me about the Cupcake Courier. Basically it is like a large cake carrier except it has little spaces for the cupcakes! Brilliant! Now I will be able to transport the cupcakes to playgroup or to a BBQ and they won’t slide around in the car or the icing won’t slide off.
They have stackable trays that you can put in and out as needed. You can also take all the trays out and have a large cake carrier. There are enough spaces to carry 36 cupcakes.
On the website Shop.com they have the cupcake couriers for $32.95.
However, Amazon has them cheaper. This one is $15 but only has enough space for 24 cupcakes. You could buy 2 of these for $30 and have 48 spaces. Pretty good value.
I also wanted to mention these little cuties. They are really very handy for yummy muffins or cupcakes. So cute! For $2.99 they might be worth having a few in the cupboard for school yard and work lunches. It also saves money and the environment by not using plastic wrap.

Panini, Yum!
One of my favourite things to have when I go out for lunch at a café is a panini. Very tasty and there is something about the grill marks I just love.
There are so many different types you can have and when you do have them often at a café, the cost of them can mount up. For the uninitiated, a panini is a sandwich usually made out of foccacia bread with tasty fillings inside like roasted vegetables and feta cheese. Yum!
I was watching ‘Oprah’s Favourite Things’ on her television show the other day and she had a panini on as one of her favourite things! How cool do I feel now? Oprah’s audience was lucky enough to each get one to take home, me however, had to buy my own.
Her audience got one from Williams Sonoma which normally retail for around $99. As they mentioned on the show, you can also grill meat or vegetables on them. Pretty good if it is just the one or two of you or if it’s extremely hot and you don’t want to put the oven or cook top on.
Well now I just wanted to make my own panini’s but I didn’t want to pay that much! Pursuing Target.com the other day led me to a panini sandwich maker. Target have this one for $40. Perfect. I will get this one and save money by staying at home and having my lunch from now on.

Programmable Coffee Maker
I am a coffee lover and I love it any way it comes. I love filtered or espresso. Even instant! Ever since I saw a programmable coffee machine on a TV show years ago, I have always wanted one. I finally decided to get one when my old drip filter broke down the other day.
As a coffee lover I cannot go without filtered coffee. Even though instant coffee is ok by me, I had just gotten used to the heart starter that filtered coffee gave me, plus I loved the aroma of the coffee especially first thing in the morning.
The programmable coffee maker just gives you that extra time in the morning. Now I would be able to set it at night and then wake up to the glorious smell of freshly brewed coffee. That is my idea of heaven!
I checked out Amazon and here is a decent coffee maker with some good reviews: but at $76 it is a little pricey for me.
So I searched Amazon again and here is a pretty good one that also has good reviews and at $33 I just have to give it a try! Especially since for $33 I am going to wake up to freshly brewed coffee!

Thermal Traveller Mug
Ahhhh…. Coffee. The first thing I think about when I get up. Nothing like a nice cup of coffee to get the morning started. Now I don’t normally have to dash anywhere in a hurry in the morning but when I did have to work I could imagine that a coffee maker like this one would have made life soo much easier.
Basically it is a one cup coffee machine and it comes with a thermal traveller mug. Pretty cool hey? Here is the one from Amazon I like this one is $17.99 whereas this one is a little more money at $39.95.
You are turn the machine on, let the coffee drip straight into the travel mug, then grab it on the way out the door. If you are a stay at home parent, then this machine can come in handy. If you are anything like me, once you pour a cuppa for yourself, something else happens and that original cup has gone cold. I couldn’t tell you how many cold cups of coffee I have drunk in my lifetime! It’s a lot! If using this machine and drinking from the thermal travel mug, then there is less chance your cuppa will get too cold.
Also, one thing I can see is that if you do like filtered coffee and you do drop into a café or coffee house in the morning before your day starts then this could save you money in the long run as you won’t be spending $4 every morning. And afternoon if you need the extra kick to keep you going. So it could be a worthwhile investment.

Baking Sheets, Just Worth It
Cooking and baking in my own home saves me so much money. It is better for the family too as I know what it is going into the food they are eating and it also encourages my son to help me out in the kitchen.
We make a lot of cookies, cup cakes, muffins, tea cakes and slices at home. Because I love it so much, I like to watch all the cooking shows and they give me ideas and recipes to try.
Trouble is I see all sorts of cool kitchen and cooking stuff on those shows, just makes me want to give them a try. However, when I saw the baking sheet, I knew I had to give it a go.
It is a non-stick baking sheet that you put down on your baking trays whenever you make anything that goes on the baking tray. Biscuits, cookies, pastries, slices and pizzas. It is completely non stick so no need for oil spray or butter to grease the tray, the baked goods, slide straight off the sheet. The tray is kept clean and the baking sheet needs only to be wiped down.
No chance or anything sticking or burning like it used too and it can be used over and over again. No more wasting money on baking paper that you just throw out. No more added oil or butter to your food. They also come in a few different sizes.
Now, where to find them? Cooking.com as one, is called a Slipat Baking Sheet and is $21.95
Amazon however has one here and that one is $9.99.
Well worth the investment I think!

Outdoor Chairs That Suits Your Choice
Depending on what part of the world you are in, summer is either finishing or spring is about to start. Either way, somewhere to sit outside is a great way to spend your days. Either with a BBQ with friends or with a cup of tea by yourself, there really is nothing like sitting outside and enjoying the fresh air. Hopefully wherever you are in the world, you have a little outside space to be able to do that!
My family and I do love spending time outside; whether it’s gardening, playing or BBQ’ing, so we wanted to get some outdoor chairs and a table. One type of outdoor chair that we really love is the classic Adirondack Chair. Have you seen this? I am sure you have, they are essence of outdoor chairs.
You see them everywhere! All over the world too, so you just know that they are a great design. There are lots of different designs; there are just chairs, chair lounges, tables, ottomans and loveseats. You can even get the cutest little kids ones! Various places have different finishes or you can get them raw and paint or varnish them yourself.
Good old Target have the whole range, here is the link for the chairs. They are $279 each.
Outdoor Garden Furniture have them for $159 per chair
Or if you are very handy or know someone who is, you can make your own!

Egg Chairs For Comfort
There is a show on TV called the Rachael Ray Show and it is one of my favourite shows on television. In the opening credits of the first season, the host Rachael was sitting on a particular chair. I thought that this chair was a wonderful design and I simply had to find out where she got it from or if I could find something similar! It was red, made of cloth fabric and was on a swivel base and it looked like a lounge chair. (as opposed to a dining chair)
I found out searching on the Internet that it was the ‘egg’ chair. Arne Jacobsen designed this chair back in 1958. It really is proof of the pudding for a particular design if it is still around after 50 years! And for all fabulous designs that last that long, there are plenty of inspired chairs that have been based on the egg chair.
I found the Arne Jacobsen egg designer chair here. RRP is $2350, this shop sells for $1499. It comes in all sorts of colours and can come in different fabrics as well. The one I sourced is a velvety fabric cover there are also leather ones that you can get. So cool!
I really had to think about getting a cheaper one so I have found a wonderful replica version. Matt Blatt has replicas for $899 for Australian’s but those in America can get this online for same price. A designer look for much less.

Thank Goodness For Digital Cameras
In this day and age, it seems that everyone has a digital camera. We have 2 in our house; my husband and I have one each. It is so handy to have it in your handbag and just whip out, take a photo or several and they can be deleted if the photo is too dark or some heads were chopped off.
Gone are the days of having to wait for the photo store to develop film and wait to see if you have any beauties amongst the lot. This used to be such a gamble. Thank goodness for digital cameras!
I don’t know about you, but for me it means that we have several wonderful photos and I could literally cover the entire house with all the fantastic photos I have taken.
This is where the digital frame comes in which is another fantastic invention. Having a frame that you can load photos on via a USB car from your computer or camera or use the SD card from the camera. It can be used with a single photo or a slide show of photos! Imagine having a different photo in the same frame, fantastic!
So of course, I had to have one, here is one I found that might be a bit expensive at $116. It can depend on the size of the frame and the menu functions and the outside frame that you want as well. That can all affect the price.
But due to my bargain hunting skills, I was able to find this one for $38!

Smoothie Makers
When we stayed at my parents, my mum made us some smoothies one day for breakfast. Mum started making them for her and dad in an attempt to get healthier. They are a milk drink usually made in the blender with fresh fruit and plain yoghurt.
They are really a quick and easy breakfast and snack and the different types are really only limited by your imagination. And most importantly they are very delicious, even my 3-year-old son thought so!
As they are best made in the blender and we don’t have one and Master Son enjoys them. I thought that it would be an investment to buy one so we can have smoothies everyday. And as they can be used to make all sorts of yummy things, like purees if you have babies, crushing ice, (well I know that it one thing I will use it for in the summer!) and blending salad dressings and soups. I know it is an appliance that I will use often.
Actually, thinking about it, I can see that I will use it for pureeing food as well. My son is a bit of a fussy eater and that worries me that he is not getting enough nutrients. I can puree some food and pop it into other different things like muffins. Great idea!
So I checked out Amazon Here is a beautiful looking one but surely at $114 I can get something a little less expensive?
Yes I can, here is a Black and Decker one that looks perfectly adequate for $60.

Points to Ponder Before Buying Maternity Clothes
Pregnancy brings a lot many changes in the body and mind of a female. From the17th week onwards, the tummy starts showing and gradually, it becomes visible that this female is going to be a mom soon. Until this time, there is no need of any special clothing because a person is able to fit into the old wardrobe. However, gradually when you start gaining weight and your waistline expands, you have to buy clothes that can keep you comfortable. A few pregnant females consider maternity clothing a waste of money because they think that these body changes are temporary, so why to spend money unnecessarily. Therefore, they slip into their partner’s huge t-shirts and baggy pants in which they look funny. However, if you go out regularly to work or otherwise, you cannot do without maternity clothes.
Before you plan to buy maternity clothes for yourself, let us clear out some notions about this type of clothing, such as these clothes have to be straight with no definition. This is not true. Consider following important tips, in case you are buying these dresses for the first time. The basic idea of maternity clothes is to give you support and comfort, so primarily buy a comfortable pair of maternity or yoga pants. Buy dresses, which are more a wrap around style because they are easy to wear. A-line, tunic, and wrap tops look amazingly good. You may prefer wearing soft fabrics, such as jersey or cotton, for extra comfort.
Remove the notion completely from you mind that pregnant females have to look funny with their shapeless bodies. Times have changed, therefore go for good quality, smart, attractive, yet comfortable clothing, and enjoy the journey of being a mother.

Long Term Mix Masters
I love to cook. I love to bake. I love any appliance to do with the kitchen. It was a sad day yesterday as my mix master has given up the ghost. My mother gave it to me several years ago when I first moved out of home, before that she had it for several years herself. I actually think it was an engagement or wedding present. I am quite sad, as I really loved it. It was a bit eclectic and really worked very well even though it was a very basic Sunbeam stand mixer. It has two beaters and two speeds. But I loved it. I knew the end was coming and held my breath every time I had to use it, which was quite often. I just loved watching butter and sugar mix together to make cupcakes or cookies.
So now I have to head out and buy a new one. First question that springs to mind, which one do I want? Well only the best of course! I have been coveting the Kitchen Aid for ages and ages. Unfortunately, though they are still a long way out of my price range. Here is the one I love from Kitchen Aid.
Prices are around $350 - $530 depending on size and what accessories you want. It also comes in different colours which is great, can match any kitchen!
Still it is much too far out of my budget so I must find a cheaper one or a Kitchen Aid inspired one. Realistically anything will be better than my old Sunbeam mixer. Even though I did love it so much.
I found one at Amazon for $60, which I think, would do the trick. Yay!

Arco Floor Light
Through my delight in looking through home interior magazines, watching home design television shows and walking though home displays, I have come to love the Arco Floor Light. Know it? I am sure you do, as it is a classic design that has been around for several years.
It is a silver large curved single floor lamp that is able to light an entire room. It has a marble base and a height adjustable arm that ensures total flexibility. You usually only need one a room and it is transportable so you can move it around the room as your mood strikes. You cannot go wrong with a lamp like this one!
A bit of a history lesson for those that love that sort of thing, this floor light was designed by designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo in 1962 for Flos
I have seen them RRP for around $3000! That’s because it is a designer piece that has lasted decades of interior design phases. Being silver it really does suit any home. I just had to have one and to be honest, $3000 is far too much money for me, so I had to try and find an inspired one. This means that it is not the exact same floor light but one that is similar. Here I found the true original one for sale at $2696.
Thankfully I have been able to spot a cheaper model, an Arco inspired light for $359, quite a nice saving! I am so happy!

Outline Vases
Fresh flowers are the most gorgeous things to make your home feel welcoming and comforting. For this reason surely a girl can never have too many vases.
While it would be nice to have a significant other buy the flowers for us, not all of us have a significant other and if we do then unfortunately it happens only on rare occasions, especially in this house!
Vases come in sorts of sizes and shapes and many of us would have various sizes on hand. Well we have really have to so we can cover the bases of all the different sized bouquets!
Vases are probably the last thing on your shopping list but even if there is not much room in the budget for them, I am sure I have found a fun twist for you.
I have discovered outline vases! They are really cool and I am sure you will agree! I must say they look amazing I really like them. They are smaller and have room for one single stem - see saving money here, only need to buy one single rose.
Here is one place I found them for 30 pounds. (which is about $US60) they will ship overseas.
I am sure I can do better than that price and I have, here they are for $US48 or $US43 for members of the website.
Such a great gift idea for the other women in your life. Also, the outline vase is sure to suit any décor. Don’t forget the single stem flower!
